Good to Know

Augie is sensitive around other dogs. He worries very dominant or confrontational dogs mean to hurt him, so introductions need care and his adopter needs to recognise when he is uncomfortable.
He can jump surprisingly high, especially if he feels confined or left behind, so secure fencing matters.
His recall still needs work, and he is food motivated but not keen on sharing his food with other dogs.
His fluffy Husky-mix coat needs regular brushing to stop it matting.

Augie's Rescue Story

Augie has been passed around far too much in his short life. A couple spotted him being thrown from a car on a highway in Hua Hin, and it later emerged he'd been dumped three times within a single month. They fostered him, but after an altercation with their own dog they realised they couldn't keep him and contacted Baan Maa. He arrived physically healthy, vaccinated and treated for ticks and fleas, and needed somewhere stable to work out who he actually was. The busy main pack wasn't his thing, so he moved himself in with our personal dogs, and is now living his best life among the retired oldies.

About Augie

Augie knows exactly what kind of life he wants. He loves an adventure, a swim in the pond and a good run through the rice fields, but he also appreciates his peace and quiet. Give him a cool bathroom floor, a few belly rubs and some people he trusts, and he's perfectly content. He's incredibly affectionate once he's comfortable with you. New people might get a cautious head tilt for the first few minutes, but once Augie decides you're safe, he'll usually flop straight onto his back and request belly rubs. When you're finished, he sometimes celebrates with a ridiculous little dance on his back legs. The busy day-to-day life of the main Baan Maa pack wasn't really his thing, so he moved himself in with our personal dogs instead. He's now living his best life among the retired oldies, where everything is a little quieter and nobody feels the need to cause unnecessary drama.

The Full Profile

Life with Augie

Augie usually wakes around 6:30am and likes sitting out front watching the world go by. When the pack heads out, he decides whether that particular morning looks worthy of joining them. If it does, he's off. He loves playing in the rice fields, sniffing around and swimming in the pond, and Paisley and some of the quieter dogs make particularly good playmates. Afterwards you'll probably find him stretched out on the cold bathroom tiles having a nap. He needs at least an hour of exercise each day, but he isn't constantly on the go and is very good at switching off once the fun is finished. At home he isn't a big barker, isn't known for destructive chewing or digging, and can be left alone for reasonable periods.

People

With people, things are simple. He might need a few minutes with someone new, but approach him calmly and he'll soon be looking for cuddles and pats. He's good with men, women and children, although children should be respectful of his space.

Other Animals

Augie likes dogs. He walks with them, plays with them and particularly enjoys calmer company, and he's even won over some of our grumpiest seniors. He's confident in most situations but quite sensitive to the behaviour of other dogs, and doesn't enjoy very dominant or confrontational ones. Once another dog has shown him they're no threat, he's usually ready to play, and he especially likes quieter dogs, older dogs and playful females. He has previously lived with a cat. He isn't keen on sharing his food with other dogs.

Training

Augie has excellent foundations. He's toilet trained, lead trained and crate trained, travels well in the car, knows basic commands and waits politely. His recall still needs work, and like any rescue moving into a completely new environment, he'll need his existing training reinforced rather than assumed. He's very food motivated, which helps with training.

Dogs moving into a new home often regress a little at first, even on things they'd already learned. That's normal, not a step backwards - a bit of patience and the same consistent routine soon has them back on track.

Health

Augie is healthy, vaccinated and sterilised, with no ongoing medication, known allergies or mobility issues. He is not microchipped. He once cut his tail after getting caught in a wire fence, with no ongoing medical needs from the injury. His coat needs regular brushing, as it can become matted if it isn't maintained. He's generally happy to be groomed and will tolerate a bath, though we're still working on getting him more comfortable with having his paws handled for nail trims.

Ideal Home

Augie would love a house with a garden where he has room to relax and somewhere to laze around outside. He could happily be an only dog, or live with another dog following careful introductions; a relaxed senior or playful female could make a particularly good match. We'd prefer him to go to someone who has owned a dog before. He doesn't have major behavioural problems, but he communicates when he's uncomfortable and needs someone willing to listen rather than pushing him through situations he doesn't enjoy. He could suit an active family, an older or retired household, or someone who works from home, and he'd absolutely be up for joining his family on adventures.

Might not be the best match if...

We don't think apartment life would be his best fit, and a very busy household with people and dogs constantly coming and going probably isn't for him. Nor is a home full of boisterous or dominant dogs. Augie enjoys meeting people; he just doesn't want his entire life to feel like Piccadilly Circus.

Fun Fact

Augie's signature move is the head-tilt belly flop: he'll wander over, tilt his head at you and flop straight down for belly rubs, sometimes finishing with a little celebration dance on his back legs. He also likes to wander through bushes, get something stuck in his fluffy tail, and then chase his own tail trying to work out what has followed him home.

Perfect Day

A long morning walk with somewhere along the way for a splash and a swim, then home for belly rubs, cuddles and plenty of treats, followed by some playtime and a well-earned nap. Dinner would be something particularly delicious, followed by an evening stroll before he settles down for bed as the sun goes down.
